BARISTA

Here with Taboo Barista we are passionate about coffee and coffee education. We believe it should be something accessible and inclusive for all. We also understand coffee shops have become a “third space” of our society today, a space where people go for social experiences and community building. We want and need to be a part of this culture to bring the values of Jesus into it.
During the barista track we will focus on coffee education and culture in several different ways. We will have 6-8 weeks of lectures with topics such as coffee growth & processing, roasting, espresso preparation, latte art, business planning and cafe hygiene. This will comprise two days of the week, including weekly coffee tasting sessions known as cupping. Later in the program, time will be dedicated to practical learning in our cafe THINK Coffee & Ink in the form of shifts. We will also spend one day each week out in the city experiencing different cafes and the coffee culture of London. There will be weekly homework including projects from designing your own cafe to researching different coffee growing regions. During each school we participate in an exhibition of arts, where we present different forms of coffee creativity based on the given theme. Presentations have included coffee brewing experiences, creative coffee-based drinks, and even artwork made with coffee.
For those wanting to go further in their coffee education after the DTS or Internship, the London Coffee Academy is just the thing. The academy offers different levels and styles of coffee education, all providing SCA certification at the end of each course. The first course begins September 2022 and will run for four weeks.
